Living with Nature: Wildlife on the Property

Baboons roam the area—avoid feeding them or making eye contact, and keep food stored securely.
Nyala, elegant and shy, can often be spotted—admire them quietly from a distance.
Tortoises and turtles are occasionally seen—please do not handle or relocate them.
Snakes are present in the ecosystem—do not disturb them and notify staff if needed.
The Hennops River runs through the property—while beautiful, it can be fast-moving, so supervision is essential and swimming should be approached with caution.
Fish Eagle a breeding pair of the famous fish eagles is nested right within sight of the varanda, keep your ears open.

A Valley Steeped in History
The Hennops River Valley
This valley is one of Gauteng’s most ancient and spiritually significant landscapes. Carved by the Hennops River through the Magaliesberg foothills, it has witnessed San rock art, Iron Age settlements, and colonial-era farms. The name “Naledi,” meaning star in Sesotho, reflects the breathtaking night skies that blanket the lodge.
Naledi-Africa & Credo Mutwa
The land carries deep cultural significance. It was once home to Credo Mutwa, a renowned Zulu sangoma, author, and guardian of African indigenous knowledge. His presence left a lasting spiritual imprint, enriching the lodge’s cultural depth.
Hartebeespoort
Developed around the dam completed in 1923, this area evolved into a beloved retreat for nearby cities. Today, it blends eco-tourism, leisure, and conservation, sitting on the edge of the Magaliesberg Biosphere.
The Cradle of Humankind
Just 50km away lies one of the world’s most important paleoanthropological sites. Covering over 47,000 hectares, it houses some of the richest early human fossil discoveries, including the famous “Mrs Ples” and “Little Foot.”
